The Sylvia Grinnell Park Interpretive Trail and Signage Program project was to identify the park’s natural and cultural features through a comprehensive signage trail plan. The Landscape Architect’s goal was to encompass the entire park; promote a variety of recreational opportunities with minimal introduction of built features; and engage the community in heritage appreciation and conservation. The program design brings the visitor into the pristine arctic coastal landscape on both structured and unstructured trails, and emphasizes the natural resources, cultural characteristics, and contemporary life in the park. Parc territorial Sylvia Grinnell: Le projet de sentier d'interprétation et de signalisation du parc Sylvia Grinnell visait à identifier les caractéristiques naturelles et culturelles du parc par le biais d'un plan complet de sentiers de signalisation. The City of Iqaluit’s central gathering area was planned and developed in two phases by Landscape Architects John Laird and Chris Grosset. The group’s first effort built a public seating area in front of the Elders Centre in 2001, with volunteer labour and donated materials. The City of Iqaluit recognized the value of this public space initiative and committed to expanding open spaces in the city through the Iqaluit Core Area and Capital District Redevelopment Plan (2002-2003 by Laird and Associates). Iqaluit Square was planned and designed in 2004. The design featured a network of pedestrian and snowmobile trails in the city core radiating out from Iqaluit Square, a gathering space built of stone and boulders. The entire space’s elliptical shape follows the shape of the qammuq (a subterranean house) with an outer ring of large boulders marking the north point as a geographical reference and as a symbol rooted in Inuit cosmology. The square is situated in a prominent location within the city, and the walls of the square are punctuated with openings to welcome the community, reflecting the IQ principle of Tunnganarniq – fostering good spirit by being open, welcoming, and inclusive.

Square Iqaluit: L'aire de rassemblement centrale de la ville d'Iqaluit a été planifiée et aménagée en deux phases par les architectes paysagistes John Laird et Chris Grosset. La conception comprenait un réseau de sentiers pédestres et de motoneiges au cœur de la ville qui rayonnait à partir du Square Iqaluit, un espace de rassemblement construit en pierre et en blocs rocheux. La forme elliptique de l'ensemble de l'espace suit la forme du qammuq (une maison souterraine) avec un anneau extérieur de gros rochers marquant le point nord comme référence géographique et comme symbole enraciné dans la cosmologie inuite. Le square est situé dans un endroit bien en vue de la ville, et ses murs sont ponctués d'ouvertures pour accueillir la communauté, reflétant le principe IQ de Tunnganarniq - favoriser le bon esprit en étant ouvert, accueillant et inclusif.

Working with the Coral Harbour Community Economic Development Committee, Landscape Architect Chris Grosset designed, facilitated and project managed the development of Whale Plaza as a welcoming place at the community airport. The project combined the development of the parkette with a training program for the Coral Harbour Men’s Healing Committee. The project connected men to the land through skill training in masonry. The design celebrates the cultural relationship the community has with bowhead whales.

Plaza Salliq Whale: En collaboration avec le comité de développement économique de la communauté de Coral Harbour, l'architecte paysagiste Chris Grosset a conçu, facilité et géré le projet d'aménagement de la Plaza Whale comme lieu d'accueil sur le site de l'aéroport communautaire. Le projet a combiné l'aménagement de la Plaza avec un programme de formation pour le comité de guérison des hommes de Coral Harbour. Le projet a permis de relier les hommes à la terre grâce à une formation en maçonnerie. Le concept célèbre la relation culturelle que la communauté entretient avec les baleines boréales.

The Arviat Eco-Park conceptual plan and detailed design aimed to preserve the natural features of 90 acres of wetlands at the edge of the community; while enhancing opportunities for education, recreation, tourism, and traditional activities. In response to community input and participation, the design focused on a trail system with gathering spaces and interpretive elements to share teachings about local ecology and culture; utilizing local knowledge, skills, and materials. Views are directed through design elements to various details ranging from the small yet intricate composition of tundra plant species, to the grand horizon looking out toward Hudson Bay. With opportunities offered for both community members and visitors, the park aims to further the cultural/environmental education and economic development goals of the Hamlet’s award-winning Ecotourism plan. Eco-Parc d’Arviat: Le processus de planification de l'écoparc d'Arviat s'est déroulé de 2013 à 2015. HTFC Planning + Design a été engagé par Accutech Engineering et le hameau d'Arviat pour aider à concevoir une réserve écologique à la limite sud de la communauté, en capturant une partie du paysage qui disparaît et se transforme, et en trouvant des moyens de recadrer l'expérience de la terre pour les habitants et les visiteurs en amenant tout le monde à regarder de plus près. Il n'y a pas de tradition pour les parcs communautaires au Nunavut, l'équipe de consultants a donc dû en inventer une. Le projet a mis l'accent sur la participation communautaire à toutes les étapes, de la conception à l'exécution, en passant par l'entretien et la programmation, favorisant ainsi les objectifs d'éducation culturelle/environnementale et de développement économique du plan d'écotourisme primé du hameau.
